Historical surroundings

Founded in 1860, many of the houses in Lichterfelde-West have a history all of their own to tell. Among these are the villas by pioneer builder Gustav Lilienthal, affectionately known as “Lichterfeld castles”.

His famous aviator brother, Otto, carried out his first test flight only a few kilometres south of the Schweizer Park. Today a monument to this historical location stands on the Fliegeberg, also known as Lilienthalberg, around which Lilienthalpark was developed in the 20s.
